Unilever invests USD 270 million in Global Innovation Center

Unilever has unveiled plans to develop a new global innovation center in New Haven, Connecticut, to open by spring 2029. The center will be the center for the company’s personal care, beauty and wellness research and development in the United States and globally.

The center supports Unilever’s growth strategy and its portfolio of brands in the US market.

The center brings together a new and distinctive mix of assets and capabilities that accelerate development cycles and enable Unilever brands to bring to market market-leading beauty, wellness and personal care products faster:

– New technologies to increase the scale and speed of entering the market by using artificial intelligence and emerging quantum capabilities.

– End-to-end integration of the R&D process: all R&D capabilities – including formulation, fragrance creation, packaging design and consumer insights

– Unilever’s US R&D placement in an established life sciences environment with access to dozens of world-class universities and hundreds of companies

The special features that will be located in this center are:

* Global Skincare and Cleansing Center, site consolidation and support of Unilever’s Skincare and Cleansing business through advanced capabilities, building on legacy of product innovation in the US.

* A multicultural hair and skin center of excellence, specializing in creating ingredients and products that address unmet needs among a wide range of consumers.

* Human Performance Lab, generating new data and insights into human physiology, enabling on-site testing of food ingredients and supporting growth across Unilever’s wellbeing brands.

* Unilever perfume house, in collaboration with perfumers, chemists and packaging designers from the first stages of development, placing perfume at the center of product production and sensory experience.

*Packaging Innovation Studio, including real-time consumer interaction

*Feedback to accelerate the development of prototypes that perform well on physical and digital shelves
