SODIUM SILICATE

Sodium silicate,  commonly known as water glass or liquid glass, is a versatile compound with a broad range of applications in the cleaning agents and detergents sector.

Solutions of sodium silicates can be produced by treating a mixture of silica (usually as quartz sand), caustic soda, and water, with hot steam in a reactor.

In the production of detergents and soaps, sodium silicate is used as a builder or filler. It enhances the cleaning efficiency by modifying the pH and stabilizing the mix, allowing detergents to function effectively under a wider range of conditions. It also helps in preventing the corrosion of washing equipment by forming a protective layer between the metal surfaces and the detergent.

The addition of sodium silicate increases the foaming rate of soap, preventing it from drying out quickly.
