Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) is a biocide and preservative, typically used in a mixture with methylisothiazolinone (MIT), to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and yeast in cosmetics, household cleaners, and industrial products. It is a known allergen and skin sensitizer, causing allergic contact dermatitis, but is permitted in rinse-off products at low concentrations to control microbial growth.
