Sodium xylene sulfonate functions as a solubilizer, coupling agent, and cloud point depressant and is not a primary surfactant.

Sodium xylene sulfonate is an anionic surfactant used in liquid detergent, heavy-duty cleaning, wax stripping, dishwashing detergent formulations, and textile applications.

Used as a hydrotropic solvent in liquid household detergents, shampoos, degreasing compounds.
