Ethylhexyl palmitate(octyl palmitate)
Ethylhexyl palmitate is obtained from the reaction of palmitic acid, a very common fatty acid, with 2-ethyl hexanol, in the presence of an acid catalyst.
Ethylhexyl palmitate (also known as octyl palmitate) is a common, oil-soluble emollient used in cosmetics for its skin-softening, smoothing, non-greasy feel, and texture-enhancing properties, providing a silky feel and helping other ingredients penetrate. Also, it is used for pigment wetting agent.
It is a clear, colorless, liquid at room temperature bearing a faintly fatty smell. It imparts a richness to a formula and can be a replacement for mineral oil and silicones, though some with oily or acne-prone skin might find it mildly pore-clogging.
