A water spot repellant is a chemical additive (or product) used to prevent or minimize water spots, glass surfaces, shower doors, car paint, dishware, bathroom fixtures, because those are cloudy and have white mineral residues behind when water evaporates.
Water spot repellents work in one or more of the following ways:
1. Surface Modification
– They make surfaces hydrophobic (water-repelling) using silicones or fluoropolymers.
– Water beads up and rolls off the surface before it has time to dry and leave mineral deposits.
2. Chelating Agents
– Bind minerals like calcium and magnesium in hard water so they don’t get deposited.
3. Film Formers
– Leave behind a thin protective layer that reduces the ability of water to stick or leave residues.
They use in car care, Dishwashers, fabric care and hard surfaces products.
