cetylpyridinium chloride

Cetylpyridinium Chloride(CPC) is synthesized through a chemical process involving the reaction between cetyl chloride (derived from cetyl alcohol) and pyridine, followed by quaternization with a chloromethyl group. This results in the formation of Cetylpyridinium Chloride ingredient which is then purified for use.

Cetylpyridinium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound that acts as a cationic surfactant, antimicrobial agent, and preservative, effectively combating bacteria and fungi and utilized in skin, hair and oral care products for its antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. Often found in products like cleansers, toners, and acne treatments, it helps control bacteria on the skin’s surface, making it effective in addressing acne and promoting a clearer complexion. Also, it is used in mouthwash products for daily use.
