Foam regulators are chemical additives used to reduce or prevent foam formation in cosmetic products such as cleansers, creams and lotions, shampoos, and conditioners. Antifoam agents fall into two main categories: silicone and non-silicone. Silicone antifoams are chemically inert and can work effectively at low concentrations. Non-silicone antifoams are mainly nonionic surfactants and are more biodegradable than silicone-based agents.
Silicones have been used in laundry products for many years to effectively control foam in washing machines and to increase garment protection and ease of care. The following compounds are antifoams and are used in various products.
