BENZOPHENONE-4

Benzophenone-4 is a water-soluble ingredient that is made from 2-hydroxy benzophenone. In its raw form, Benzophenone-4 appears as a light beige or white crystalline powder that has a flowery odor.

Benzophenone-4 is a protective ingredient that works to keep the UVB rays away from the skin and hair. It is basically a sunscreen but since it is weak, it is made to work with other sunscreen filters for added protection. However, Benzophenone-4 is commonly used for other purposes such as extending the shelf lives of products and acting as a color protectant. This ingredient is also known by its other names like 1-phenol-4-sulfonic acid and sulisobenzone.

It is also a color protectant for the products that come in clear packages.
