Calcium sulfate dihydrate

Calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaSO4 · 2H2O), which is either mined from the earth or produced through more controlled chemical processes. Calcium sulfate in nature contains impurities that are not suitable for use in cosmetic products.

Calcium sulfate dihydrate, commonly known as gypsum, is used in cosmetics as a color additive, opacifier, and binder, as well as for its abrasive, astringent, and skin conditioning properties. It’s a white, odorless powder that can be found in various cosmetic products like toothpaste, lipsticks, and makeup powders.

Calcium sulfate plays an important role for film formation in peel-off masks.
