CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT
Camellia sinensis leaf extract is obtained by pressing or distilling the oils from the tea leaves. The leaves at different stages of the plant’s life are harvested for different types of tea extracts like white, green, black, etc.
Camellia sinensis extract possesses numerous benefits like antimicrobial, astringent, and emollient properties which makes it an ideal addition to various cosmetics and personal care products.
The extract contains four different types of catechins: epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epicatechin (EC), out of which EGCG is the most potent. Its antioxidant potential may protect the skin from the harmful UV rays that cause sunburn and premature aging. It also soothes dry skin. Topical application of this extract reduces the scaling of the skin and improves its elasticity and hydration. It can be used as an anti-cellulite agent due to its caffeine content. This extract is used as a conditioning agent, emollient, humectant, and astringent in personal care products.
