Is it time to address the “Ozempic face” concern?

“Ozempic face” is a term used to describe the hollow, aged appearance that results from sudden weight loss and loss of skin elasticity after using GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic, Zepbound, and Wegovy. This has led to the dramatic growth of nonsurgical, in-office skin tightening treatments such as Ultherapy, Thermage, and Morpheus8. These in-office treatments can cause skin damage, especially if performed by untrained personnel. In October 2025, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a safety communication regarding potential risks associated with certain uses of radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, warning that the use of these devices for cosmetic procedures could cause serious complications. The FDA is aware of reports of serious side effects (adverse reactions), including burns, scarring, fat loss, deformity, and nerve damage, and the need for surgical repair or medical intervention to treat injuries.

Recognizing the problem with Ozempic face, Debut sought to create an ingredient that could achieve the same skin-tightening results without the inflammation and downtime associated with these non-surgical treatments.

Through a proprietary platform that integrates artificial intelligence, skin genomics, and biotechnology, Debut believes it has developed a first-of-its-kind active that can biologically activate the same cellular pathways targeted by in-office treatments.

The active ingredient, DermCeutical Elastin Deep Lift (EDL), targets the premature and sudden skin laxity caused by GLP-1 drugs. Of course, DermCeutical EDL is not a replacement for these types of in-office treatments, but rather helps maintain the costly results.

According to the manufacturer, DermCeutical EDL works on the same biological pathways as some clinical skin-tightening treatments (such as radiofrequency, ultrasound, and some lasers), but activates topically without the need for heat or controlled skin damage.
